NEW VENUE YOGA STABLE
Curled up in front of the TV may seem like the ideal post-school position, but for Annamaria Sacco the ‘Cobra’ (pictured) is a far more effective way to unwind. Having watched her daughter’s formerly flexible body begin to stiffen up the moment she started primary school and became desk- bound, Sacco decided to set up Yoga Stable to redress the balance. A sanctuary on Edinburgh’s Montgomery Street, the new venue runs a range of yoga classes for adults, alongside complementary therapies. While for children, the lnspireKids programme features classes in yoga, drama and
music.
‘I wanted to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere which catered for everyone,’ says Sacco of her new venture. ‘And to give children something fun and creative to do after school during the winter, rather than go home and watch TV.’ The lnspireKids classes run during term time only and fall into two brackets: 5—8 years and 9—12 years. Professional actor Elena Masoero runs the drama workshops, with Stuart and Daisy Dinwoodie in charge of the ‘Music & Fun’ class. Sacco makes yoga more accessible for younger minds by incorporating animal shapes into the movement, encouraging flexibility, co-ordination, concentration and respect for others. As with most things, children pick up her complex moves far quicker than
aduns.
‘Teaching children yoga is far more challenging,’ says Sacco. ‘They’re so supple and the class is very fast-paced. They can do incredible poses before I’ve even finished showing them.’ For more information about the new centre, visit www.yogastable.com or call Annamaria on 0131 556 9526.
