He grew up in a textbook dirt poor sharecropping family in the -
then moved to Chicago as a teenager in 1957, working factory jobs ‘ day and soaking up the blues legends in the South Side clubs by night." . Pretty soon he was up there himself. and became a major influence on ‘ ‘ a players like Eric Clapton. Jimi Hendrix and Jeff Beck.
He suffered along with most blues musicians in the lean years of the 805. but followed John Lee Hooker onto the UK-based Silvertone label in 1991. Damn Right I Got the Blues revived his career big time, and his flamboyant guitar playing. rasping vocals and shamelessly contrived Showmanship has been filling halls ever since.
