Fighting the drum & bass corner we have Manga, and representing the capital hip-hop collective is Scratch. It's a tag-team event with heavyweight guests Ed Rush and the Scratch Perverts also weighing in for
the contest.
If Tony Vegas of the Perverts makes it, that is, because The List‘s first attempt at an interview has to be aborted when he misses a plane to Aberdeen. Ali’s well in the end, though, and Vegas is now on the line and full of chat about the new, slimline Perverts (himself, Prime Cuts, Plus One), who have just celebrated the release of their latest LP, Badmeaninggood.
“Yeah, I couldn't be happier with the band musically now but that‘s no disrespect to the guys who left [the Perverts used to be an eight-piece]. I mean, those boys helped build things up, I had my reasons for letting them go at the time, but ultimately I think it was a selfish thing to do,‘ he says. ‘There you go, I don't think I've ever said that in an interview before!‘
So how does the new line-up compare musically? ‘Well, all three of us are pretty eclectic,’ says Vegas. '80 we play everything from drum & bass to the White Stripes. The whole thing has slowed down a bit now we don‘t compete, but we still put on a show and make sure every element’s well done. We just want to represent ourselves as best we can musically, just
