It’s a long way lrom the dressing-up box to the Festival Theatre stage, but some things never change, as popular children’s entertainers The Singing Kettle will prove later this month when they dig out the lull booty lor their latest singalong show Pirates. Eye patches, wooden legs and spotty hankies will be de rigeur, as cast and audience alike take on the guise at those legendary cowboys ol the high seas. ‘The children love dressing up as baddles,’ says Artie Trezise, one hall ol the husband and wile team who run the show at Singing Kettle. ‘We’ve had some great outlits solar.’
As ever, the company’s trademark tubby red kettles also have a star part to play. ‘The plot at the show is that the pirates have stolen our precious cargo ol singing kettles and hidden them on Devil’s lsland,’ says Trezise. ‘In order to get them back the crew of the good ship Singalong have to make the voyage to the island, where the challenge is to recover the kettles

belore the pirates return.’
It’s a tense state at altairs, especially as the pirates in question are a ruthless band at cut-throats. ‘They’re a pretty nasty lot,’ warns Trezise. ‘They’d probably make us walk the plank it they caught us.’ Thanklully there’s always a Singing Kettle ditty at hand to keep up everyone’s spirits. ‘cilla [Fisher] has written quite a lew new songs lor the show,’ says Trezise. One ol them, Pirates Bold is already becoming a signature. What Shall We Do With The Drunken Sailor? has been another lavourite. It’s a song I never would
