I The long Roads (PG) (John McGrath. Scotland. 1992) 87 mins. A retired merchant seaman and his dying wife leave Skye to visit their dispersed children. With Douglas Mackinnon's wonderfully aunospheric Gaelic short. Seal/adh (The Vision). Sat 11 only. Glasgow: GFI'.
I m Bovary (PG) (Claude Chabrol. France. 1991) Isabelle Huppert. Jean-Francois Balmer. Christophe Malavoy. 140 mins. The veteran of French cinema‘s latest is a beautiful. entirely faithful. but slightly dull version of Flaubert's classic. Emma (Huppert) is bored with social conventions and scandalises 19th century bourgeois France with her infidelity. Fife: Robins.
I Made It America (12) (Richard Benjamin. US. 1993) Whoopi Goldberg. Ted Danson. Will Smith. 111 mins. Separated by culture and circumstance. their paths continually cross. significantly during World War 11. Like the shifting ice floes of its Arctic scenes. Ward's film is in a constant state of flux. A technically astonishing and profoundly moving exploration of how our lives are literally mapped out in advance. Edinburgh: Cameo.
I El Mariachi (18) (Robert Rodriguez. US. 1992) Carlos Gallardo. Consuela Gomez. Jaime de Hoyos. 89 mins. It may have been shot for a mere $7,000. but this consistently engaging thriller with touches of comedy quickly transcends its ultra-low budget. I Wis (18) (Henri Xhonneux. Belgium/France. 1989) With the voices of Francois Manhouret. Valerie King. Michel Robin. 83 mins. I Matinee (PG) (Joe Dante. US. 1993) John Goodman. Cathy Moriaty. Simon Fenton. 100 mins. A coming~of-age tale set against the Cuban missile crisis. as a cinema showman (Goodman) brings his latest ‘2' grade sci-fi thriller to a small Florida town. I Mean M08) (Martin Scorsese. US. 1973) Harvey Keitel. Robert De Niro. David Proval. 110 mins. I Moonnlkor (U) (Jerry Kramer & Colin Chilvers. US. 1988) Michael Jackson. Sean Lennon. Kellie Parker. Joe Pesci. 100 mins. The Jacko plan for world domination continues with this ragbag of pop videos and archive footage masquerading as a feature film. Criticism is pointless as the kiddies will flock to it anyway. but there's a lot to dislike about a movie which exploits their short attention spans. Strathclyde: WMR.
I m I“ M Nothing (PG) (Kenneth Branagh. UK/US. 1993) Denzel Washington. Kenneth Branagh. Emma Thompson. Keanu Reeves. 111 mins. I Orlando (PG) (Sally Potter. UK. 1992) Tilda Swinton. Billy Zane. Quentin Crisp. 92 mins. A male Elizabethan courtier begins a journey of self-discovery that involves four centuries and a sex change. Swinton's simple but unique beauty captures the androgyny of the perfect Everyman/woman. while director Potter creates from Virginia Woolf's novel a humorous and visually splendid succession of episodes that is a constant joy to watch. At last. a literary film rather than a literature substitute. Edinburgh: Cameo. Strathclyde: UCI East Kilbride.
I PUB. Tam(15)(w1m Wenders. US/W. Germany. 1984) Harry Dean Stanton. Natassja Kinski. Hunter Carson. 144 mins.
