The City's Pictures Sat 14 Feb—Fri 20 March. Since the Sixties, when an important collection of Scottish art was donated and a sizable sum bequeathed by a Miss Jean Watson. the City of Edinburgh‘s collection of Scottish art has been one ofthe most important in existence. There are 3000 paintings, drawings, prints and sculptures in all. spanning art in this country throughout the century. The Glasgow Boys reside here in the east, Peploe. McTaggart, Cadell and the later talents Eardley and Redpath. Contemporary trends too are represented in the work of Pat Douthwaite, June Redfern and John Bellany. At least one third ofthe collection is devoted to recording the city of Edinburgh itself.’l"his ‘archive’ of artists impressions looks at events and personalities ofrecent centuries. The exhibition takes up all four floors of the city galleries and is its most comprehensive showing ever.
