Photographs by Glasgow photographer David Begg from two trips — one to South East Asia and India and the other to Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. Eamonn McCabe, Sports Photographer Until Sat 27 Sept. McCabe is a winner. Observer photo-journalist for eight years, he has been Sports Photographer of the Year four times. This exhibition of about 30 pictures looks at sport from all angles. Dealing with action daily, it is surprising how still many of McCabe‘s images are. Split-seconds are crucial and the result of capturing them with clarity, freezes an unreal moment. Without the clutter ofprint and chatter ofjournalists on the page some of the excitement has been removed. Just some. The humour and glamour and, in one image of the Heysel Stadium, the anguish ofsport remain. The Eye oi the Storm, an exhibition about the nuclear question 4-25 Oct.

Third Eye Centre Glasgow
The exhibition at the Third Eye Centre has been assembled by the new Exhibitions Organiser, Andrew Nairne. it was chosen both with reierence to the schedule at the Third Eye’s gallery, and with regard to what else is currently available in Glasgow. Paintings will not be shown at the Third Eye again until March and so it was thought important to include two artists now— Alan Green and Jeitrey Dennis. In Glasgow recently the trend has been to show more Iiguratlve work and these artists are offered by way oi an alternative. ‘Jusl when you thought it was safe to go into a gallery and see

Alan Green’s large non-ligurative canvases oi textured colour are exhibited alongside sculpture in mixed media by Alison Wilding. This juxtaposing oi artists is a deliberate policy, both to bring the artists gogether and to contrast and parallel contemporary work. Jeitrey Dennis’ work is smaller and Ilgurative and the suriace oi the picture interrupted, or rubbed away, to reveal a vignette of another world. They are, it was suggested, like scenes suddenly caught unexpectedly in a car mirror. (Sally Kinnes)

Echoes of a Civil War— Spain’s Struggle for Democracy Until Wed 1 Oct. A strident collection of posters from this war which fired so many artistic imaginations. They were brought back to Glasgow by the late Ethel Macdonald, the woman who, as the radio voice of CNT in Barcelona, was dubbed ‘the Scots Scarlet Pimpernel‘. Robert Capa’s photographs of human misery add powerful reality to the display. Level 2:

While New Image painting has dominated the galleries over the past few years, Alan Green continues to explore the possibilities ofabstract art. This will be the only chance to see his recent work in Britain as the exhibition is en route to the Donald Morris Gallery in Detroit.
Alison Wilding—Sculpture Until Sat 11 Oct. Sharing the gallery with Green, Wilding has made a sculpture specially for this exhibition. Her work was recently included in the Venice Bienniale.
Jeitrey Dennis- Paintings Until Sat 11 Oct. Dennis’ small paintings are built up oflayers of disparate images — urban scenes, landscapes, figures, self-portraits.
