AROUND TOWN Edinburgh Festival
With the Fringe and International festivals both marking their 70th anniversaries, this is set to be a landmark cultural year. Vast numbers of shows have been on sale for some time, so tickets are already getting snapped up for some of the top events. It seems almost unfair to name a mere handful of highlights but here goes: a full month of Tape Face, a brief run of acclaimed US comic Hasan Minhaj, an Alan Ayckbourn play, Vuelos (pictured), Anoushka Shankar, China Goes Pop, PJ Harvey and several classic operas. THEATRE The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
The National Theatre’s acclaimed take on Mark Haddon’s novel finally comes to Glasgow with playwright Simon Stephens’ vision discovering a fresh audience. This Restless House With toes dipped into both central belt metropolises this August, Zinnie Harris’ reimagining of Aeschylus’ ancient drama of a dysfunctional family was a hit when it was first performed last year and completely deserves this return.
