Annie Clark has had one hell of a year, performing guest vocal duties for Swans and Nirvana as well as riding a wave of critical acclaim following her fourth, self-titled album back in February. How to describe it – part gig, part one-woman theatrical monologue? Whatever the description, Full Tilt is unashamed entertainment depicting the tragic story of Janis Joplin, who died aged 27 from a drugs overdose. It’s a blisteringly concise and moving script from Peter Arnott, with beautiful direction from Cora Bissett and perhaps the finest band you’ll hear on a Scottish stage. Not only that but there is a career-best powerhouse of a performance from Angela Darcy as the flawed rocker. Told through the music of Joplin, this show was first presented at Òran Mór and, if there’s any justice in the world, will surely now tour forever.
