7 COMEDY Judah Friedlander

8 CLUBS Vase Showcase

9 FILM The Iceman

Fans of 30 Rock will recognise Judah Friedlander from his role as geeky, sleazy writer Frank Rossitano. Of course, he’s a stand-up comedian in his own right too, but it’s much more exciting seeing someone in The Stand you recognise off the telly. See feature, page 64. The Stand, Edinburgh, Fri 7 & Sat 8 Jun. Canadian house producer Jacques Greene presents his analog live performance, complete with ‘full bespoke production and venue staging’ to the Glasgow massive, complemented by a live slot from the city’s own Koreless. See preview, page 57. Make Do, Glasgow, Fri 24 May.

Before the rather wonderful character actor Michael Shannon goes utterly stratospheric as the villainous General Zod in Man of Steel this summer, make sure you catch him in this true story about family man- slash-hired killer Richard Kuklinski. See review, page 71. General release from Fri 7 Jun.

10 CHOSEN BY BILLY LETFORD, POET Knockengorroch World Ceilidh

About seven years ago a friend of mine offered me a spare ticket to an event I’d never heard of, Knockengorroch World Ceilidh. As festivals go it’s a small one small enough, in fact, to remain part of the landscape. If wandering in a forest and washing your face in a fresh running river sounds good then this could be the music event for you. There’s a roaring i re to keep you warm and beats and sounds from around the world to keep your mind involved. The line-up this year is great, and you’ll more than likely i nd the musicians jamming with each other around the site when they come off stage. Get involved. Knockengorroch World Ceilidh, near Dalmellington, Dumfries & Galloway, Thu 23–Sun 26 May.
