HOW DID YOU GET THAT JOB?
Name Anna Christopherson
Job title – We don’t really do titles – if anything I would like it to be Entrepreneur. Company – ‘The Swedish bars in Edinburgh’ – specifically Boda Bar.
When did you start your job? My husband Mike and I opened Boda Bar 2004. I loved my work in Stockholm but it had one flaw – it was not my own company. So what does your job actually involve? Running your own business, you really have to do so many different things: some days it’s events and recruiting, another painting or cleaning a cellar. But there’s also lots of paperwork involved.
Best / Worst Aspects? Best is meeting lots of nice people, both customers and staff. Worst is when there are problems not quickly fixed and paperwork! Looking back, what advice would you give to a young Anna at the start of her career? I think everyone should try to run their own business at some point in their life. And if you feel there is need of something or a product that you would like to see then there is most likely someone else feeling the same way, so there is a market for it. Running your own business gives you more experience than any other job. It has a steep learning curve but it is about problem solving and common sense so it is a great experience for life. It is not about having money, it is about having ideas and not giving up. It might not (or probably won’t) make you rich but you can make your own decisions and that is worth a lot.
And finally . . . what are you most looking forward to in 2013? Finishing a 300km bicycle race on Sat 15 Jun, thereby completing a Swedish Classic. After that I will not arrange any more bets with my staff!
