Eating & Drinking Guide: Then and Now 28 Edinburgh International Science Festival 31

E nviously eyeing up this year’s Manchester International Festival programme, I don’t think I was the only one secretly wishing that it could be transplanted north

of the border. What a thrill then, to see that the Edinburgh International Festival

programme for 2013 seems to have an air of the MIF about it. The Wooster Group, Grid Iron, Patti Smith, Meredith Monk and a Shakespeare adaptation featuring two Chinese metal

bands . . . all in all we’re starting to get pretty excited about August (read more about the

line-up on page 9).

Elsewhere in this issue, Charlotte Runcie questions our commitment to Eurovision (page

10); we profile Scotland’s most exciting theatre stars at Behaviour (page 24); Food & Drink editor Donald Reid looks back at 20 years of the Eating & Drinking Guide (page 28); and we

bring you a bumper guide to this spring’s tempting new trends: nine pages of fashion and home inspiration with plenty of recommendations for the best indie boutiques in Glasgow

and Edinburgh (see page 13).

Our Style Special covers all the bases, with a look at upcoming spring trends, a focus on up-and- coming fashion designers at eca and GSA, plus info on the best places to buy your vintage gear and homewares.
