6–20 JANUARY YOU’VE GOT 15 DAYS TO LIVE!

As we go to press the news has come through that the Edinburgh International Film Festival will no longer have a single artistic director, but a number of curators for different strands, with the entire event overseen by a single producer, James Mullighan, current director of the filmmakers network Shooting People. With the emphasis placed on audience enjoyment, and one-off events planned for interesting venues, intrigue and surprise seem to be the bywords for the festival’s 2011 film programme. Creating unique, ‘pop-up’ cinematic events and attending to local interest, while scaling back on parties and awards, is a strong strategy for keeping the festival going in tough times. Best of luck to the new team. Editor
