Macbeth at Traquair It’s summertime, which may or may not mean the arrival of blue skies and sunshine, but most certainly spells the onset of the outdoor Shakespeare season. Leading the pack is the annual celebration of the Bard at beautiful Traquair House in Innerleithen, whose company are this year mounting a production of Macbeth directed by husband and wife team Richard and Fiona Forsyth. While the Scotch play was first produced at Traquair in 2000, the company of actors has expanded hugely since those early days (this production includes some 30 youngsters), and this version is likely to be darker and bloodier, with a particular focus on the complex relationship between the tragic hero and his lady wife. ■ Traquair House, Innerleithen, Wed 2–Sat 6 Jun & Wed 9–Sat 12 Jun.
