fortnight as synth~pop pioneers
The Human League and indie rockers The Zutons were unveiled as the headliners at this year's Wickerman Festival (Fri 24 & Sat 25 Jul). Highlights include a special performance from Billy Bragg. festival favourites Dreadzone and Zion Train. along with old skool ska and punk from the UK Subs and Penetration. Other events include a comedy tent boasting Phil Kay. a 24-hour Burnsathon. a camouflage fancy dress theme and the customary ceremonial torching of a giant Wickerman.
Up in Glasgow. post-punkers The Fall have been confirmed as playing at this year‘s inaugural Hinterland Festival (Thu 30 Apr & Fri I May). They join over l()() other acts including Metronomy. Sons and Daughters. Prego and Micachu. Dedicated to showcasing established and upcoming Scottish talent. as well as providing a platform for some of the UK's best emerging and established

Elsewhere. newbies on the scene are given the chance to hit the stage courtesy of Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival. who are looking for young bands and solo artists between the ages of l4 and 25 to enter their talent competition. And finally. the mighty Mill initiative. which has so far played host to over 80 bands from Scotland’s emerging music scene. is set to change its Edinburgh venue. Currently running every Thursday at the Caves. the night will move to (‘abaret Voltaire from Thu 2 Apr. The Mill will continue to showcase its wares at the ()ran-Mor in Glasgow. from Thu 9 Apr. HEAVY LOAD SCREENING
I Down’s Syndrome Scotland is hosting a screening of Heavy Load at the Filmhouse, Edinburgh on Sat 21 March to mark World Down’s Syndrome Day. The punk outfit of the title have become a huge hit and are unique in that three of them have learning disabilities. Jerry Rothwell’s documentary follows the band to gigs and during the recording of their first album.

THIS MONTH
brings the launch of Conflux, a four-year project funded by The Legacy Trust UK and the Scottish Arts Council with the purpose of developing and promoting a community of artists working in the fields of Circus, Street Arts and Physical Theatre in Scotland. Based at the Arches, it involves collaborations with venues and organisations across Scotland.
-' , EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL has launched Anatomy of a Festival, an exhibition that sneaks a peek behind the scenes of Festival 08, at The Hub. The exhibition goes beneath the surface to explore the anatomy that makes these performances possible. Details of this year's EIF festival programme will be announced in the next issue of The List.
CATWALK DESIGNS Edinburgh College of Art’s annual fashion show (Wed 6-Fr18 May) presents the final collections of students graduating in Fashion and Performance Costume, as well as collaborative rojects with the Texti es de artment. RETURN OF THE HIPPO I Following a £2.15m restoration, The Hippodrome, Scotland's oldest purpose-built cinema, which first opened in 1912, will reopen at the beginning of April. The historic, A- listed building in Bo’ness will reopen just over 97 years after its first customers sat in its specially designed, round cinema. The Hippodrome redevelopment has formed a major part of the Townscape Heritage Initiative to restore significant buildings within the town centre of Bo’ness.
