I'm delighted Bums Night is falling on a Sunday. During the week. my eating consists of breakfast on First Scotrail, lunch in the STV canteen and then dinner with whatever is left by the rest of the family when I eventually get
home. However, Sunday January 25th deserves to be marked in style. I'll start the day at Porto and Fi in Newhaven, my favourite spot for Sunday breakfast. Their scrambled egg and parma ham is dream food but. with a nod to the bard. I'll instead go for a soft white roll with Ayrshire bacon. For lunch l'll reluctantly continue my January health and fitness regime with a bowl of home made soup. My wife's pea and mint is the favourite of the moment. At night we'll be having a traditional Burns Supper with friends. Nothing fancy. iust good Crombies haggis, neeps and tatties from Damhead and a cranachan to finish. Last year it led to a eureka moment when I decided to eat only Scottish food until St Andrew's Night. That experiment has now ended but I'm more convinced than ever that Scottish is best and Burns Night is the perfect excuse to celebrate our greatest poet and our amazing natural larder.

I rum nssso over the running of Roti last year to Ryan Singh of Mr Singh's Restaurant in Glasgow, Oloroso chef- proprietor Tony Singh has unveiled his new venture, Tony's Table. A bistro-style restaurant, together with an on-site bakery and sandwich shop, it will replace Circus restaurant in North Castle Street. The owner of the site, Sir David Murray’s Murray International Holdings, will remain involved as a minority shareholder. Due to open in February, Singh describes Tony’s Table as ‘somewhere that families can dine together and know what they’re eating is healthy and
hearty.‘
I coupon “nu. has returned to the Glasgow dining scene with the Merrylee Road Bar and Kitchen. It's an all-day. neighbourhood sort of place serving coffee and pastries, bar bites with a pint of ale or a glass of wine, as well as a full bistro menu. There's a fixed price menu with two courses for £7.50 running from noon to 7pm, while the main menu ranges from a burger with peach and chilli relish to twice-cooked pork belly with an apple and endive salad. I 00. OF 11. good things about holding a food and film festival in the Highlands is that these days you can whistle up some excellent local food to accompany it. Such is the case with the Kingussie Food on Film Festival on 6 and 7 February, where Claire MacDonald will be leading cooking demos at the Saturday morning indoor food market, with screenings on both days of food-related short films and a screening of Chocolat on Saturday evening.
