When did you start your job? It all started in 2003 after I got
a job as a knitting consultant with Rowan yarns based in John Lewis. Inspired by all the gorgeous yarns, magazines and books in my department, as well as thorougth enjoying the teaching element of myjob I decided to set up my own business.
What does your job actually involve?
When I used to tell people what I did for a living they would alwayslookatmeoddly--especiallywhenlgottothepartabout teaching knitting and crochet. in a pub, in Leith. I design freelance and l have written four craft books, which feature my design work. and I also teach craft and textiles in Edinburgh Primary Schools.

I love teaching. especially when working with children; I find their sense of imagination so inspiring! The worst thing about my job
is trying to cope with the whole self employment thing -- keeping trackofalltheworkldocansornetimesbetrickynsocanworidng fromhomeaslalwaysendupcleaningwhenlshouldbemaking things and preparing for classes!

After graduating with a degree in Textile design from Gray's School of Art. I initially took some time out and worked in retail for a while totryandsortoutwhatdirectionlwantedtogoinandhowl wanted to use my qualification.
ifs/hate the best way to get a job like yours?
if you are a young designer and want to set up your own business and/or get your work published then it‘s all about having an ideal concept that’s a little bit different. I strongly believe that being enthusiastic and passionate about what you do will get you anywhere you want to go in life. as well having the ability to always come up with new ideas.
Looking back, what advicr; would you give to a young Rachel at the start of her career?
Believe in your creative ability and say yes to every opportunity you are offered! Sometimes you need to take a path in which you never imagined yourself going down, I did that and I’m so glad I did.
What does the autumn hold for Rachel l‘lenrlcrson?
In November. I will be launching my new book for young girls, called ‘Stitch Diva's' so I hope to be doing lots of promotion. marketing and book signings. I’m going to try my best to get on TV too! I also plan to develop this new idea I have for children's kits, as well as trying to engage in even more creative projects in Edinburgh Primary Schools.
