With the time for giving lurking in the not so distant future, the great and good of the music world are uniting to do their bit for a good

treasure trove of stars are doing their hit for charity this month. with special gigs in both Edinburgh and (ilasgow. ()XJAM. the L'K‘s biggest music festival. will present its South [fast Scotland launch event at The Hive in lidinburgh on Thursday 27 November. in a bid to raise money and awareness for ()xfam. The line-up includes performances from Found. The Black Diamond lixpress. Saint Jude‘s Infirmary. Sorren Maclean. Thieves in Suits. The Wee Baby Jesuses. with a roster of tunes from selected DJs. ;\ cocktail bar and food stalls completes the festivities.

In Glasgow. on l‘riday 28 November. the stage will be set at the Sli(‘(‘ for a St Andrew's Versus (‘ancer concert. featuring The liratellis. Travis. Alphabeat. licho and the Bunnymen. and many more. The St Andrew‘s Concert. in support of Verstis Cancer. hopes to raise funds for a range of Scottish cancer charities.

I The List is concerned to report that Edinburgh‘s World Heritage Status comes under the microscope this fortnight, as inspectors from UNESCO arrive in the capital. The city must prove it is doing enough to protect its historic character. The probe follows several developments in the city centre, including the Caltongate project. and work on Leith‘s Waterfront.

director David Hayman, journalist Ken Smith and A Play, A Pie and A Pint director David MacLennan will reside as the judging panel for the first Oran Mar Scottish Whisky Awards later this month. The event will take place in the Auditorium on Thursday 20th November with ex-referee Willie Young as the speaker for the evening. Entertainment will come in the form of popular pipe band Celtic Spirit. The awards include the Lifetime Achievement award, Whisky Representative of the Year, and Blind Tasting Awards, which will consist of three shortlisted drams.

FRANZ A-HOY! I The Franz Ferdinand camp has announced details of the release of the first single from their forthcoming album. ‘Ulysses’ will be released in January 2009, a week before the release of their third album, Tonight: Franz Ferdinand. The band also announced a remix competition with the website Beatport, www.beatport.com, allowing people to put together their own unique version of the upcoming single. The winning entries will then be released digitally to coincide with the single release in January.
