Job General Manager of Unique Events (the company who create and produce Edinburgh's Hogmanay)

What does your job involve? A wide variety of roles! However. for Edinburgh's Hogmanay

(and event work in general) my overall role is working with my Directors. the Unique Event Team and liaising with our clients. Main responsibilities include managing the team. budgeting for events, finance and legal aspects. all ticketing and front of house issues. liaising with clients regarding marketing 8 PR. The list is endless.

What did you do before you started this job?

I worked at the Edinburgh Playhouse for ten years - started in the Box Office. worked in marketing and ran the Corporate Hospitality Department.

What’s iiiesi: about year job?

The variety! For Hogmanay alone we will be dealing with 30 Vikings in full regelia with flaming torches one moment. a pack of Huskies on New Year's Day the next or dealing with the demands of the rock 'n' roll department (both artists and crew)! In short, being part of a world-class event.

ldon't think that I could pin it down to one occasion but my highlights include the Castellers (Human Towers) from Barcelona at last year's Night Afore International or any year at the Torchlight Procession, watching the river of fire from the High Street stretching all the way to Calton Hill. However. I'll never forget the fireworks at midnight on my first Hogmanay knowing that it had all been worth it and that I'd survived.
