This is the other Radioactive Man, the one who carpet bombs dancefloors with gobbets of techno genius every weekend. He either appears as an individual entity, or With the assistance of his very own Fall Out BOy. Andrew Weatherall. The two constitute artist and production duo Two Lone Swordsrnen. It's hard to think of a more respected techno two-piece.
I’ve heard of this techno malarkey. Is it anything like electro?
Best leave this to Radioactive Man himself, or Keith Tenniswood. as he's known to his mum: ‘There's a load of great techno and electro out right now. as well as a load of great 4/4 stuff. Every club I play is rammed. and techno always goes down well, especially in Scotland.‘
So he’s no stranger to our lovely little country?
No, he has worked with homeboys and girls like Dot Allison and Slam (among a great many others), and has appeared in Scottish clubs since the dawn of electronic music. He has this to say about the inimitable experience that is Pressure at the Arches in Glasgow: ‘l've got a great affinity with the way Slam put on their parties. That club is mad. absolutely mad. You know it's too loud when you can actually feel your skeleton rumbling, that‘s happened a few times there.‘
Triptych are big fans of huge and varied line-ups, so who joins him for this date? He's topping a bill that includes Mogwai (DJ set), Alexander Tucker and Wolf Eyes. “Originally the club was going to be called Cotton Mouth, because of that feeling you get in your mouth after a great night out, obviously not that nice a feeling but you get the point’, jokes DJ Mehdi about the naming of his Glasgow School of Art clubnight which hits its first birthday this fortnight with a special guest appearance from Etienne ‘Super Discount' De Crecy and local band Union of Knives. Mouth became Cake when, ‘me and my very good friend Johnny Lorraine, were on a very drunken night out and came up with it. You come up with the best things when you’re wasted,’ he admits.
The night was originally a DJ night playing tech- house and electro but lately the night has had a change in direction, something Mehdi had wanted to do for many reasons. ‘In the beginning, I found the club was

lacking character. There are so many club nights in Glasgow just doing the same thing now, it‘s very hard to find something a bit different,‘ he explains. ‘This is what I wanted to do with Cotton Cake by bringing high quality established guest DJs combined with showcasing new talent from the band world in Glasgow. Glasgow has a lot of talent, and I found when I was trying to get recognition as a DJ it was very hard. I‘m trying to give bands and DJs the chance to break that barrier, by playing at a quality venue like the Art School.’
Etienne De Crecy's appearance is somewhat of a dream come true for Mehdi, ‘Tempovision and the Super Discount collection define electronic music to its full and best. First there was Etienne then Daft Punk. Need I say more? He is a God,’ says Mehdi. What can the Art School punters expect to hear from God? Mylo seemingly recovered enough from the nasty infection which affected his hearing earlier this year, Alkan guickly defuses the notion that this Will be anything other than an old pals' get together. 'I met Mylo when he supponed me at the CCA three years ago.‘ he reminisces. “I said I liked what he was playing. he told me they were his own productions. then he gave me a CD and we've kept in tOuCh SIRCG.
