I Fey legend from Dumfries and nominee for Beck’s Futures, Donald Urquhart, is donning his clubbing cap once more for a special one-off night at the ICA, London, on Wednesday 4 May. Throughout the 905 Urquhart ran his high camp cabaret night ‘The Beautiful Bend’ with Sheila Tequila and this is a one-off comeback called ‘A Celebration of the Beautiful Bend’. The awards are announced on Tuesday 26 April, for which Urquhart’s specially created perfume called ‘Darnley’ — ‘a recreation of a perfume that was popular among homosexuals in Edinburgh during the 19308’ - is up for glory.
l Dundeesbased Nathan Coley. creator of ‘286 Places of Worship. Edinburgh', is turning his architectural thinking to the environs of Bristol as part of a project called ‘Thinking of the OutSide: New Art and the City of Bristol'. He is building a sculpture over 5m tall within an ancient. disused churchyard. echoing the 703 housing blocks that surround the site. It will be open Saturday 21 May to Sunday 3 July.
I Meanwhile, Glasgow sculptor Andy Scott, the man behind ‘The Heavy Horse’ on the M8, ‘Shipbuilders’ at the Braehead Maritime Museum and many more public sculptures, is unveiling a giant new work in Belfast this month. On Tuesday 19 April ‘The Thanksgiving Square Beacon’ will be revealed in all her 62 ft splendour. She stands on Lanyon Place, beside Waterfront Hall and was six years in the making.
