Louise Bourgeois: Stitches in Time Until Sttn 9 May. Free. The first major L'K survey of work by the iconic French artist Louise Bourgeois curated by Frances Morris and featuring a group of life-size sewn fabric busts attd two major suites of etchings. Born in Paris in 191 l. Bourgeois moved to New York (‘ity in 1938 where she continues to live and work. Her beginnings were as an engraver and painter bttt by the l940s she had turned her attention to sculptural work. for which she is now recognised as a 20th century leader. By the I960s. she began to execute her work in rubber.
bronze and stone. referencing to what has become the dominant theme in her work. her childhood. Although she has been showing her art for many decades. she has only been fully recognised later in life. In 1982. she became the first woman to have a retrospective at New York‘s Museum of Modern Art. Highly recommended.
