Alongside the larger scale, big name-attracting nights Manga and Mischief - Edinburgh’s other drum & bass club - the more locally-orientated Obscene has been serving a role in the capital’s clubbing community for the past two years, complementing the other nights with an emphasis on homegrown talent.
‘We’ve always tried to keep the night as underground and punter-friendly as possible,’ explains promoter Krishma Bachoo, who runs Obscene alongside Alice Will. ‘That means we always try to make it cheap, even if we have a guest on, and we’re keen to let new DJs get out and about as much as possible.’
With a residents’ night featuring Johnny Faith, Futur Proof and Sola Perplexus celebrating this milestone, what
does the future hold for Obscene? ‘I don’t know,’ considers Bachoo. ‘I think we’re happy with what we do and where we are now. We’ve come a long way since our first night, when no-one knew exactly
how it was going to go. At the time Alice and I were only 17, so it was good that two little girls
who were getting a lot of stick from people and not being taken seriously could actually pull the
