Bassist and composer Dave Conway can usually be relied on to come up with something unusual, but his latest project for Spontaniacs (with singer Lucy Kendra, pianist Dave Patrick and drummer Des Travis) is intriguing, even by his standards. Funded with the help of a creative development award from the Scottish Arts Council, they are working on a new direction for vocal jazz which Dave describes as ‘attempting to improvise a new melody for a given lyric every time we perform it - for a flavour of the music try to imagine Bjork with Herbie
