Glasgow life
The Concert Hall’s popular talk series, Conversation Pieces, is back. After the success of the last group of talks, this season brings another quality line-up and covers all tastes and interests, from crime, media and politics to the arts
and space travel.
The first talk is by broadcaster and writer Ludovic Kennedy. In his most recent book, Thirty-Six Murders and Two Immoral Earnings, Kennedy expands on his fascination with miscarriages of criminal justice. He argues that we have an antiquated system that invites the police to commit perjury. This inaugural talk, hosted by Iain Anderson, should create a lively and controversial discussion and set the standard for the rest of the season.
Following on from Kennedy will be Lord Douglas Hurd (Mon 13 Oct), Ruth Wishart (Fri 31 Oct), Libby Purves (Fri 7 Nov), Tim Furniss (Fri 14 Nov), Mark O’Neill (Fri 28 Nov) and Alexander McCall Smith (Mon 15 Dec).
The Theatre Royal launches its Look Who’s Talking series on Friday 10 Oct with the famous voice of rugby, Bill McLaren. Five further well known figures are scheduled to appear over the following weeks to discuss their new books. They include Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Kate Adie, Joan Bakewell, John Simpson
