PUNK FUNK OPTIMO (ESPACIO) The Sub Club. Glasgow. Sun 25 May

The LCD Soundsystem

In terms of credibility, Optimo (Espacio) couldn't really grow any more. One basic fact about the night is that. at the beginning, it was empty and running at a loss. It took a lot of time and belief (from Twitch and Wilkes, the Sub Club and countless others) to establish the night. which has since gone on to become one of the most quoted in Britain, if not the world. If all the people who now profess to have been there in the early days actually were, it would have been a roaring success from day one. And that just ain’t true. It's a fact worth remembering when we look at the line-ups the

club now offers.

This month, Optimo bring in another massively influential special guest and friend, James Murphy of the LCD Soundsystem. Murphy. one half of New York's influential DFA records production team. has worked with artists ranging from David Holmes. the Rapture. Radio 4 and Juan Maclean. Perhaps the most valid summation of LCD’s effect should come from a fansite. This from devotee Matt Mahoney: ‘To get a good idea of the LCD's sound one must imagine Daft Punk. Chic and Talking Heads in the back room of a seedy NYC dive engaged in an anything-goes sexathon circa 1978. To some that might sound like the ingredients to a funky itch, but to most it will definitely sound like sweet music.‘ (Johnny Regan).

set). Pedro Winter. Jeretny Healy and even more. Last year it was a good party. and they're promising that this one will be even better. .S'eejeururt'. page 16.

I Come to Bed at Blanket (Formerly Bed). 1 lpm-~3am. £4 (£2). Weekly. Scotti B and Mark Donelly are your hosts at this new karaoke night. replete with real beds and microphones. Indulgence jUst reached new heights on Sauchiehall Street.
