Since its inauguration in 1993, the Britannic Asset Management 10k run in Glasgow has pitched itself as a platform for women to get fit, eat healthily and challenge themselves both mentally and physically. Better still, it’s all in a good cause as the event helps raise awareness and, more importantly. funds
for the Macmillan Cancer Relief charity.
Record entry figures of 9290 in 2002 firme establish its position as the UK's largest women-only timed road race. And this year's competition looks set to be bigger and better than before; a staggering 5,300 runners have already signed up and Glasgow City Council is optimistic that the ultimate target of 11,000 will be met. An impressive feat by any stretch of the imagination.
Following the success of last year’s route, the run kicks off at Bellahouston Park. New and old runners alike should be in pretty good company: so far the line-up includes the welcome return of international athletes Lornah Kiplagat, Tanni Grey Thompson and Caroline Kwanbei.
