STEPHEN MALKMUS AND THE chks
Uber-indie kids were weeping fey little indie tears when A years back. But they needn't have worried, cos all that’s ha - appeared in their place. The most high profile of these is Stephen Mslkmus who, with his backing Jicks, has produced a couple of Pavement-y albums chock full ofskewed guitars, wonky drums and

scattershot, daft lyrics. His recent second album, Pig Lib, sees Mslkmus taking his music into even welrder H territory, with some serious prog rock and 705 folk tendencies getting thrown into the mix. With Malkmus looking as good as ever and Evan Dando back among the living it’s something of a renaissance for American indie pin-ups from the 90$, and while Malkmus gigs might not be the unpredictably brilliant shambles that Pavement's were, there are usually still some surprises and plenty of charisma in evidence.
