Gospel star Rebecca Malope is a new name on the festival roster this year. and will be featured with her regular backing band. Pure Magic. Gospel music is one of the root sources which fed into jazz. and the Saturday night gospel concert has established itself as a staple of the programme.
Previous concerts have brought top American and British acts to the festival. but Rebecca Malope is the first major gospel artist from South Africa to feature. She became famous after winning a national competition in 1987. and has gone on to make an impact well beyond her native land. (Kenny Mathieson)
