Luke Slater ‘Stars and Heroes’ (Mute eeeee) Another throbbing slice of underground electro-pop gristle from Slater. Ricky Barrow's forlorn vocals taking this computer game funk to another level. DistOrted Felix Da Housecat mix a bonus. Parsley Sound ‘Platonic Bate’ (Mo Wax eeee ) Laid—back electronic soundscapes with indie leanings that would be the perfect accompaniment to Icelandic movies about alienation. Beverly Knight ‘Gold’ (EMI ; eee ) Beautiful voice. beautiful lady. dull song. C‘mon Miss Knight: get some writers in to match the quality of those sweet soulful vocals. Oakenfold ‘Ready Steady Go’ (Perfecto eee ) Double Aside from Oaky's first album. ‘Southern Sun' is predictable charty dance while 'Ready Steady (30' (featuring Asher D pre-incarceration) comes 3' across like a tamed Prodigy. Layo & Bushwacka! ‘Love Story’ 3. (XL eee ) The hype has been building for this release from the End regulars and big mates with Mr C. Not unlike Moby but far funkier and better in a big ol' house kinda way. Heartless Crew ‘The Heartless Theme’ (East West ee ) 80 Solid have a lot to answer for as this carbon copy London mob hit the airwaves with this tweeting garage track. They think its as heavy as cancer. but its more like a mild flu. Basement Jaxx ‘Get Me Off’ (XL eeee ) Reworked. rejigged. remixed and. as the press release puts it. 'dirtier than Janine Butcher‘. Well said that man. Tim Wright ‘Going Down/T he , Lunge’ (Novamute eeee ) Double A-side of pounding. driving techno abstraction. Warning: this'll make you dance like a spastic. 4 Elvis v JXL ‘A little Less Conversation’ (RCA eeee ) The whole concept of remixing Elvis ; reeks of sacrilege. But this super catchy toon (doing the rounds on the current Nike ad) ups the funk not just the bpms bringing rock'n'roll's original junkie kicking and screaming into the noughties.
