Expect bitter l’l‘.'{11ll(-}S to be talked up )n the press in the run up to both. but (it our opinion. there's plenty room for everyone. CONGRATS TO DES CLARKE for winning yet another title. Yes, the pint-sized ditherer has been named by the Chortle website (www.chortle.co.uk) as ‘Best Open Mic’. How one so experienced should be bestowed with such an honour isn’t clear, but heck, he deserves it. What’s more, fans of the thrice thwarted runner- up specialist can now wake up to his dulcet tones on Beat 106’s breakfast show.

IT’S ALL HAPPENING OVER AT Big Word HQ. Not content with a blossoming Edinburgh audience for their hyperactive performance poetry, Jem Rolls and co are spreading the good word in Glasgow. It’s all kicking off with a slam at 92 on Sunday 7 April, before the monthly spots at Nice’n’Sleazy start on Wednesday 17 April. Despair not Edinburgh legion, because the fortnightly Gilded Saloon nights will continue, plus there’s a bigger and better slam planned for June, at La Belle Angele no less.
