A 33-year-old acting student at Glasgow's RSMAD. Grae Cleugh sent his first play Fucking Games to London's Royal Court. the most prestigiOus new writing theatre in Britain. He got a letter back in a week. saying, ‘We really like the play. come in and
see us.'
The second-year student is obviously excited. ‘I feel great.' he says. ‘yet scared because a lot is expected of you. All the big critics are about to review my play.‘
Originally from lvlosspark. Cleugh studied law at Glasgow University. then practised it in Edinburgh before moving to London for four years. '1 didn't hate it.‘ he says. ‘I just always longed to act. Acting is my first love. Whatever happens with the playwriting. acting is my priority. It would be nice to do both.‘
Cletigh's shon. bleak play. Fucking Games. about four gay men who binge on drugs. drink and sex through the night in a designer Chelsea flat is bound to cause controversy with scenes of buggery and oral sex. 'Some people are not going to like it and that's OK.‘ he says. 'But I also think it's OK to ask some questions about the community you live in and the lifestyle yOu are encouraged to lead. I think there is something addictive about the gay scene. For people who are a bit weak-willed. It kind of draws them in and keeps them there. It's all about looking for your next fix. Whether it's y0ur next drug fix. or your next alcohol fix 0r yOur next sexual fix. there is something very addictive ab0ut the lifestyle. For some people it's difficult to give thaf up and move on, to have a normal life with friends and to do the things that
everybody else does.‘
