Well, you know what they say. You wait all summer for a new night to come along and then ten arrive at once, all promising to bring back the good times and get those bodies popping. James Smart dons his protective goggles and gets a tour round the Soundfactory.

Soundfactory? Sounds like a conglomerate of like-minded producers, DJs and bands based in central Scotland to me. Well, blow me down with the wind of change. You're right. The crew behind Soundfactory are putting on a monthly club night. featuring residents Dave Lewis and Peter Parker. plus a range of top- notch guests.

The same Peter Parker who was bitten by a spider when still a schoolboy, giving him supernatural powers and a slot in the iceman/ firewoman/spiderman crime- fighting triumvirate? Surprisingly not, although he is a little shady about his origins. admitting only to being in his 303 and to have enjoyed no small success playing at a range of clubs and events under various guises. Lewis has also spent some time in the DJing world, as well as working as a studio engineer for Soundfactory in Dollar.

It all sounds jolly exciting. What about the tunes? Well. the pair don't want to pigeonhole themselves too much. which is probably pretty wise considering the speed genres are going in and out of fashion this year, but are revealing that they‘ll be mixing up techno, trance and a spot 0‘ house. The vibe will also depend on the guest DJ - Jon the Dentist (pictured) - making his Edinburgh debut at the October launch night. with the Knuckleheads confirmed for November and Mr C and John ‘00' Fleming likely to follow in future months.

Jon the Dentist? Cool. I love hard house. You're operating under a bit of a misconception, my glo-stick toting companion. Arsenal fan Jon (we all have our fatal flaws) never played that much hard house. but got pigeonholed into the genre by over-eager promoters and journalists. You can, however, expect to hear some seriously funky tech-trance in the three-hour set he's promised.
