EFAGTF I LEf ’?

Since it kicked off in 1996. Motherfunk has liberally splashed the parched wasteland that is Tuesday night with water from its 703 themed jacuzzi. James Smart asks himself some dubious questions to find out the truth about the mother of all funk nights.

Motherfunkf? You can swear in The List, y’know. . . It's meant to be spelt that way, you oat. \/‘./t_:'i‘e talking about (ill‘.() and l tyet's tunkftielled l'litl'.‘.’(:(3l\ llli.( up teiii and a half years old and packing then) into the l l()fl(:y/(Lt)ltll) t.'i.«':th reckless abandon. Sounds like my kind of packing. But I thought Motherfunk was at the Venue? It was. liounders Luau ‘l'iyer‘ liyet (pictured) and Gino ‘(Eino' Stornaiuolo decided to move to the new venue when it opened in Match, to the evident dissatisfaction of their old home.

A bit like Scarface was it? Well. take out the blood, mountains; of cocaine. Al Pacino and Michelle Ptieitei and you'it: nearly there. What about that cool bit with the chainsaw in the shower? That too. I'm afraid. The Venue thought it owned the name. but :‘iino and f‘tyei‘ disagreed. The result was that for some weeks there were two Mothertuiiks. Now there's only one. and the Venues new funk night has been renamed l-‘Iava.

Respect. So what’s going down at the ‘Comb? Well. they're playing ia./.'. funk and soul in the main room. and hip hop and Ram out back. Plus the guests who occasionally graced Motiiedunk have become a regular thing, ‘.‘.’|lll the likes of Bob Jones and tan Wright appearing behind the decks in recent months. As it happens. the next guest is Kewn Beadle (Tue 5) Jun). a Southport Weekender rettular and punieyor of dancetloor lit/X.

And who’s been digging those retro grooves? Well. it's free and on a weekday evening. so the students have been obvious tans ~ as has anyone else Willi a love of the funk and an {NOISIOH to staying in on a scnool night. When numbers rose to a hectic 870 a few weeks back. Gino and Fryer had to restrict entry numbers to 800 so ll you want to get in. you'd better arrive early.

I Ariana/funk it/Ou/d like to thank U/tragroove and Renegade for their Support over the last few months.
