A new pre-club from. in their words, ‘just two more blokes playing their records in a pub.’ Fortunately Hush Puppy of Divine fame and Chris ‘Beans’ Geddes (he’s in some indie band. apparently) have corking collections taking in 60s pop, Wigan- centric soul. mod jazz and Latin grooves. Bugged Out! Another corking line-up: Felix Da Housecat, Justin Robertson and James Lavelle headline, with support from Murray Richardson and the Jengaheads. Oudos, Sat 74 Oct. Cream After two years away from the West Coast, the biggest club in the world... ever returns, this time taking on the QM, which is fast becoming a Nation by the Clyde (see above). Freelance Science Stuart and Orde step aside for two long-time friends of Slam from across the pond, Richie Hawtin and John Aquaviva. The pair haven’t DJed together in some time, so demand should be high to see them take over Alaska for one night only. Alaska, Sat 7 Oct.
Judge Jules The Judge (pictured) is no stranger to the Arches, but this time he returns wrth Radio 1 in tow, and his eponymous show will be broadcast live from Midland street. The Arches, Fri 6 Oct.
Kinky Afro After a one-off fundraising event, demand for Kinky Afro's unique collaboration between DJs Matthew and Robyn and the African drum troupe Awayara was such that they launched a regular night post haste. Three years down the line, and the gang are celebrating the fact that there’s still no one out there fusing rhythms in gone the same way. Substitute Planet Peach, Fri 73 Oct. Lock Edinburgh's Sublime and Manga jom forces to establish a new night on the West Coast and by Crikey, it's gOing to be huge. Teutonic tech-house geezer Timo Maas heads up the Sublime Arch, while drum & bass producers Bad Company fill out the Manga Arch. The Arches, Thu 79 Oct My Machines More often than not, Jonnie and Hamish are content to leave guests out of the equation.
