Early season treats
The Hypochondriak Tony Cownie's splendid production combines belly laughs wrth reflections on the nature of both deception and self- deception. A stunning set is combined with some carefully measured OTT action to provide a terrific night out. Edinburgh: Royal Lyceum, until Sat 7 Oct.
Hamlet Simon Russell Beale treads in some pretty glorious footsteps in this production by the National Theatre. We can expect a rather more cerebral treatment of the Dane’s existential problem than usual. Glasgow: Theatre Royal, Tue 26—Sat 30 Sep.
A Little Rain Peter Arnott’s new play represents the third part of 7:84's state of the nation trilogy reflecting on the new Scotland. New artistic director Gordon Laird makes his debut with a play depicting a microcosm of Scottish socrety through a Glasgow pub. Glasgow: Paisley Arts Centre, Thu 5—Sat 7 Oct, then touring.
