The Finest Scottish Sapphires Until Sun 3 Sep. This temporary display brings together for the first time the finest crystals and the largest cut stone from the sapphire locality on the Isle of Lewis. Views From Above Until Sun 30 Jul. Part of the Millennium Festival of Flight, this exhibition of aerial photography from the 19205 to the present day features work by pioneer pictorialist aerial photographer Alfred Buckham through to specially commissioned new work by Patricia and Angus Macdonald.
Breaking The Surface Until Sun 31 Dec. Over thirteen ceramics artists from Korea present an exhibition of new work, highlighting the use of both traditional and contemporary techniques. Featured are elegant white jars and dishes by Ik- young Kim and robust vessels by Lee Kang-Hyo.
Ian Best Until Sun 30 Jul. Ian Best, a boat builder from the Fair Isle takes up residency in the museum to create a seven metre traditional wooden Shetland Ness Yoal. Part of the Festival of Traditional Craft Skills.
Celebrating Scotland's Crafts Until Mon 31 Jul. A month long festival celebrating Scotland’s indigenous crafts, providing visitors the opportunity to rediscover Scottish crafts like Fair Isle and Sanquhar knitting, Harris Tweed, Orkney Chairs, tartans and kilts through workshops and displays.
Heaven And Hell And Other Worlds Of The Dead Until Sun 11 Feb. Discover beliefs and customs from around the world in an exhibition of the afterlife. Exhibits include a Mercedes-Benz coffin, shamans’ masks, Egyptian grave goods, Mexican festive skeletons and much more.
Artists In Residence -‘I’he Linares Family Tue l—Thu 10 Aug. Internationally acclaimed artist Felipe Linares Mendoza and his sons Leonardo and Felipe create two full-sized skeleton figures for the exhibition’s Day of the Dead market stall.

Handbag Until Sun 3 Sep. This touring exhibition looks at the most feminine of modern icons, the handbag. Twenty five artists and designers have been commissioned to create bags and their contents. Sarah Crawford’s Bag ForA Day-Out is made from latex and plastic, acting as a shrine for treasured mementos, Val Hunt’s Canned Handbag is constructed from recycled lager cans and Dianne Reade’s Granny By Day, Spy By Night from paper pulp reveals its proper function when illuminated.
