in the past. but this time they’ve turned their attention to a name which is likely to be familiar only to the die-hand beats, bleeps and squeaks fraternity. lack Mottram talks to his foolish alter-ego.

Bobby Brown? I'll never understand why that nice Whitney Houston ended up with a scoundrel like that. It'll end in tears. God help us. This isn’t the ex- New Edition R&B titch. This is Bob Brown, techno innovator.
Never heard of him. Well, that’s what I'm here for. Brown's DJ career dates back to 1993, when he started spinning vinyls around Ohio, most famously at long-running nights like The Attik. By
’95 his residency at Flight in Philadelphia was drawing punters from as far as New
York and Washington, D.C., all keen to check out his commitment to creating a unique set every time he plays, rarely mixing the same two records twice. How nice for him. Indeed. Brown‘s ability to programme crowds led, inevitably, to programming music. His
fledgling Framework label has released a
brace of 12ins, all of which have garnered critical acclaim and dancefloor popularity in equal measure.
Wow. A DJ turned producer? How novel. Simmer down there. Bob's no stranger to the airwaves either, in addition to hosting a weekly show for
five years on his local station, WKDU, he
organised a pair of 72-hour techno charity marathons. You know, for kids.
Radio? That's so last century. The internet‘s where it's at. Funny you should mention that. Brown's latest venture is into the crazy world of Web TV. Kris Keegan and A.J. rock the main room with house and garage, Ian Thompson whacks out the best in underground garage and dance classics in Betty’s, while members in the Skybar are treated to Paul Traynor’s smooth R&B mix. In addition, the Archaos cast of performers bring a touch of the circus to Clubland with fire-eaters, stilt-walkers and daredevil trapeze artistry.

I Colours at The Arches. 10.30pm—3am. £tbc. 10 Jun. Monthly. Another month, another load of famous types at Colours. This time round, you get chart heroes Phats And Small behind the decks, plus erstwhile handbag hero Allistair Whitehead, Danny Howells and Col Hamilton.
I Divine at Glasgow School of Art. 10pm-2.30am. £4 (£3.50). Weekly. Come this summer, Divine will have been providing a dose of northern, funk and 605 classics for nigh on ten years, but the kids still can’t get enough.

If you’re not wearing awfully nice clothes, however, don’t expect to get in.
I 2 Tons Of Fun at Club Budda. 11pm-3am. £6. Weekly. Geoff Montford and Chris Harris get funky with a bang up-to-date selection of disco house.
I Ultima at Alaska. 11pm—3am. £8. 10 Jun. Monthly. Twitch and GK Machine return with their high-concept evening. The idea is to play music from this century, and this century only. Since infantilism and nostalgia seem the order of the day in modern Clubland, this makes a refreshing change.
