I Nomad at Nomad. 7.30pm—midnight. Free. Weekly. Resident ‘Donut’ Jay is joined by Kris Keegan, Ian Thompson and A.J. spinning the best house sounds. I Pousey Cafe at Air Organic. 8—11pm. Free. Weekly. Shifting up a gear after the move from Sun. The Jengaheads get you stoked up for a night out with a mixed bag of beats. from electro through to house.

I Phatboy’s Kitchen at MeChuill’s Way Out West. 8pm-midnight. Free. Weekly. Hip hop, breaks and beats courtesy ofThe Wax Monkey.

I Shogo at The Brunswick Cellars. 9pm-midnight. Free. Weekly. A brand new evening of breaks, beats and suchlike from G-Man and occasional guests, with skateboarding visual entertainments.

I Tilt at Bar 10. 7pm—late. Free. Weekly. An evening of Euro trance from the Tilt

I Virunga at Brel. 9pm—midnight. Free. Weekly. A top selection of tunes with a world bias, including soca, Latin dance, African and reggae.

Club

I 1210 at Babaza. 8pm—3am. £4 (£3). Weekly. Top-notch house, garage and trance from Ian Thompson and David Gilmore, renowned for keeping the crowd on their toes and dropping the odd surprise track. In a bid to encourage new talent, the residents step down between 8—1 1pm. turning over the Technics to up- and-coming DJs. Call the club on 204 0101 for details of how to participate.

I Bennet’s at Bennet’s. llpm—3am. £3 (£2). Weekly. Shawn delivers a commercial dance mix in the main room, while Annie supplies 70s and 80s hits at this gay club.

I Bug-A-Boo at The Velvet Rooms. llpm—3am. £4 (£3). Weekly. John Lyons, Martin Ilesketh and James Fullerton take it in turns to provide the R&B and soul selections.

I Casino Royale at The Apartment.

1 lpm—3am. £4. Weekly. Bossanova beats, Hammond grooves, soundtracks and loungecore from your hosts Frankie Savaloy and Kirk St Moritz. Additional entertainment value added by the Bedazzled comedy collective and Monty Cantsin of Bear Room fame.

I Club Salsa Sabrosa at Havana Bar. 10.30pm—3am. £4 (£3.50). Weekly. Top- notch Latin sounds, with all hip-shaking genres covered thanks to residents Keith, Alexis and Geo D.

I Come Correct at Trash. 10pm—3am. £4 (£3). Weekly. A showcase of all things hip hop, with the Come Correct residents showing that they too can cut the mustard.

I Columbian at The Asylum Back Room. Rpm—lam. £1; free to CUSU members. Weekly. Music with breaks, from hip hop and big beat to soul and funk.

I Cop at Archaos. llpm—3am. £4 (£3). Weekly. Absolutely colossal student night with Vance and C.J. supplying hard partying house anthems in the main room

and daft classics from Tam Coyle downstairs.

I Dazed 8: Confused at Qudos (Queen Margaret Student Union). 7.30pm—2am. £2 (£1)— students and up to four guests. Weekly. Live music every week from aspiring local talent until around 10.30pm, when the residents take over, spinning a retro set encompassing funk, soundtracks and indie classics.

I Freedom at The Shed. 10pm—2am. £3 (£2). Weekly. Paul N’Jie with a smooth mix of garage, funk and commercial house.

I Foundation at Q. 9pm—3am. Free before 11pm, £5 after. Weekly. Ewan Kelly with funky disco and soulful garage.

I Go Bang at Reds. 11pm—3am. £3. Weekly. GK Machine, Glenn C, Jay Hay and Guy spin a varied techno selection. I Hi Karate at The Glasgow School of Art. 10pm—2am. Free before 11pm; £1.50 (£1) after. Weekly. Andrew Divine and Neil McMillan are still adding top notch guests to their own special blend of beats and breaks. On 8 Jun, The Tummy Touch Tour hits Glasgow, with Tim ‘Love’ Lee and labelmates Tutto Matto bringing their trademark dubby, bongo-laden breakbeat to the mix.

I Intervention After-Show Funk Night at The Arches. 9.30pm-3am. £6 advance. 22 Jun only. Following on from the Intervention catwalk spectacular, tonight’s finale features the talents of real deal soul men The Sugarman Three (although there are in fact four of them), who are currently recording for Desco. Glasgow’s own jazzy decks-man Nick Peacock spins the records.

I Loose Joints at The 13th Note Club. llpm—3am. £2. Weekly. Residents (eyebee) and (dcecee) have shifted the old Booty Jam up a gear with a new concept night, just like a 70s album. The concept being to play a broad mix of dancefloor classics without overdoing the turntable technique, concentrating on the songs themselves. Is this the first sign of a mixing backlash?

I MFI at Universe (Coatbridge). llpm-2.30am. £4 (£2). Weekly. Big telly man Ewan MacLeod and DJ Bob with a disco-tinged selection of house old and

I Phuturesole at Alaska. Ilpm—3am. 8 Jun only. As part of the continuing promotion for the new Solemusic album P/tuturesole, the guys throw another one- off, featuring the talents of one Rainer Truby (Compost), who’s produced one of the tracks on the LP. He joins Stevie Middleton, with Muchail and Ewan Kelly spinning downstairs.

I Pimp at Planet Peach. 11pm—3am. £4. Weekly. Steve Gaston pumps out the funkiest disco and lightens the blend with the occasional kitsch classic.

I Rhythm And Blues at Life. 10pm—3am. £5. Weekly. Rhythm And

I Special Favours at The Glasgow School ofArt (Vic Bar). l0ptn—2am. £1.50. Weekly. An evening from the self- proclaimed ‘goddesses of sound’ DJ Mingo-go and LJT Bosom, who promise to provide everything from naff pop to cheesy beats via sleazy electro.

I Thursday Is Enough at Club Budda. 11pm—3am. £4 (£3). Weekly. Disco and house from Stevie Smith.

I Tune! at g2. 11pm—3am. Free entry before 11pm; £3 (£2) after. Weekly. Simon Morrison and Andy Horn select brand new house and trance, plus Ibiza favourites to jog the memory.

I Tunnel Thursdays at The Tunnel. 11pm—3am. £4 (£3). Weekly. Tunnel regulars Kevin McFarlane and Scott Mackay, plus Lisa Littlewood in room two, spin house for a dressed-up crowd of students.

I Upfront at The Asylum. 10pm—3am. £1 (free to CUSU members). Weekly. Eddie Tonner and Scott Mochar with quality house and trance.

I The Wha? at The 13th Note Club. Monthly. Next date 29 Jun.

I Yang at Yang. 11pm—3am. Free before midnight; £3 (£2) after. Weekly. Fantastic night featuring live funk action from Elevation Trio in the bar and weekly residents Bob Peck and Charlie Inman slamming out their trademark block party hip hop, funk and breaks. Room three features the varied talents of Foresight, Goodfoot, Yogi Haughton and Dribbler in rotation.

I Rumble at The Garage. llpm—3am. £4 (£2). Weekly. Absolutely crackers student night, stuffed to the gunnels every time with kids sharking to the sounds of chart hits, indie favourites and lowbrow house.

I Superstar at Trash. 11pm—3am. £4 (£3). Weekly. Party tunes, pop and indie faves for students and the like-minded. I Wired at Destiny. l0pm—3am. £2 before 11pm; £3 after. Weekly. Casual night at the wrought-iron exhibition-cum- club, with a new name to match the dancier music policy. This is the only time when denim and trainers are acceptable apparel here, so you don’t have to iron your Ben Sherman.

The cream of this fortnight's clubbing crop in Glasgow

The Perf ct Summer Groove II Kicking off the West End Festival with a two- floor talent-overload. Playing live are local funksters Elevation Trio and electronic experimenters Scientific Support Dept. Silicone Soul, who Dled at last year’s debut event, return for more of their seamless house action. Queen Margaret Union, Sat 70 Jun. Straight Ahead The monthly showcase of all things funk 'n' soul welcomes Dr. Bob Jones, radio presenter, producer and label owner. Oh, and he’s a DJ too, with 30-odd years worth of experience and a record collection to match. Alaska, Sat 77 Jun.

Optimo in Dub Pt. 1 After the success of their Hogmanay event up there, Optimo take over the Art School once more for this one-off, featuring the guest talents of veritable dub warrior The Mad Professor (pictured). Fruitfly Thumping hardness merchants Fisher And Price are joined by special guests The Sharp Boys. In addition, there's The Alternative Catwalk, an Intervention 2000 event showcasing club fashion from young Scottish designers. The Arches, Sat 77Jun.

Subculture 6th Birthday Party It’s a pure shame that Ham and Domenic’s Subbie celebrations are taking place in the delightfully named temporary venue, but you can bet that devoted regular types won't let this inhibit the hedonism. Many happy returns. Planet Peach, Sat lO/un.

Rhythm And Blues Life’s pure R&B night moves up a gear, with a spate of guests unrivalled in number even by the Art School's current efforts. Thu 8 Jun sees Aitch 8., of Soul II Soul, take to the decks, on Thu 15 Jun there’s a live treat in the form of a PA from R&B vocalist Lisa and, on Thu 22 Jun, London's DJ Boogie’does his stuff at a Sony sponsored night. Life, Thus Solemusic Presents DJ Spinna, who was last seen in the city at Yang back in January, returns to join the Solemusic crew in the promotion of their new album. He’s worked as part of Jigmastas and Polyrhythm Addicts, and he's got a hand in both the hip hop and house stables. Club Budda, Sun 78 Jun.
