I Dave Milligan Trio Jazz Joint, 8 Morrison Street, 538 7385. 9.30pm—3am. £4 (£3). Band on stage at 9.30pm. Pianist Milligan and his trio kick-start the Jazz Joint’s new programme. Fresh from a refurbishment and with a grant from the Musicians’ Union in recognition of their live music promotion, things will be picking up down at the Joint. Lizzard Lounge’s Joseph Malik is the man behind the decks.
I Funk Junkies La Belle Angele, Hastie’s Close, 225 7536. 11pm—3am. £4 (£3). Laying on the funk, soul and jazz courtesy of the cream of local musicians, whose joint CV includes work with Elemental, Ugly Groove Movement and the Big Bang Big Band. DJ support in the same funk vein.

I Parker/Guyllytton and Schweizer CCA at McLeIIan Galleries, 270 Sauchiehall Street, 332 0522. 8pm. £8.50—£10. With his feet (slightly) more firmly in the jazz idiom, saxophonist Evan Parker leads this trio featuring renowned composer and bassist Barry Guy (of the London Jazz Composers’ Orchestra) and percussionist Paul Lytton. Also appearing is Swiss pianist Irene Schweizer, a major player in the European free jazz movement. Part of the Free RadiCC/ils series.

I Casserleyllytton and Barrett/Oliver CCA at McLeIIan Galleries, 270 Sauchiehall Street, 332 0522. 3pm. £8.50—£10. A meeting of the minds in a high-tech/low-fi scenario as Lawrence Casserley’s computer manipulation combines with Paul Lytton’s self-made percussion and amplification objects. Electronic composer Richard Barrett, whose pieces have been performed by ensembles across Europe. teams up with improvisational violin and viola player Mary Oliver. Part of the Free RadiCCAls series.
I Witch Gong Games and Homburgerl Guy CCA at McLellan Galleries, 270 Sauchiehall Street, 332 0522. 8pm. £8.50—£10. London Jazz Composers’ Orchestra artistic director Barry Guy presents this piece, for which he has orchestral accompaniment. It’s a musical interpretation of the paintings of Alan Davie, which play on archetypal symbols. Guy quickly jumps ship to join forces with baroque violinist Maya Homburger for the evening’s second set, which revels in the unusual tensions of old and new music.
