An exuberant New Year celebration as the Johann Strauss Orchestra and Dancers, with soprano Lousie Walsh, recreate the elegance of 19th century Vienna. The extensive programme includes Strauss favourites The Blue Danube and Die Fledermaus.

Edinburgh

I The Dunedin Consort Queen’s Hall, Clerk Street, 668 2019. 7.30pm. £4—£9. A fully-staged version of the suitably seasonal opera Amahl And The Night Visitors, directed by the composer himself, Gian Carlo Menotti. There is an opportunity to join the company before the show to find out the background of the piece.

Martyn Brabbins conducts the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the Academy Chamber Choir in this BBC Radio 3 concert which highlights the work of Scottish composer Judith Weir. Featured pieces are Storm, Piano Concerto with piano soloist Rolf Hind and Moon And Star.
