Verbrechen
Diskono, the group behind Verbrechen, are hard to pin down. Depending on what they are up to at a given time, they can reasonably be described as a conceptual sound- based arts collective, a record label, gig promoters and gallery curators. These polymath tendencies have resulted in the promotion of a club night that is as hard to categorise as Diskono themselves.
‘Clubbers normally only get the chance to react,’ explains Alan Gordon, ‘but we are more into the idea of a live, interactive, improvisational performance that does away with this idea of the DJ as messiah.‘ To do this, Verbrechen
involves the clubber in the production of the music they have come to listen to, in that the crowd are encouraged to physically customise a selection of unwanted vinyl. 'It is amazing how creative people will be, given the chance,’ says Gordon. 'We have had people drilling holes in records, melting them into new shapes and scratching the surface.’ The mangled discs are then incorporated into the 015 set, simultaeneously engendering a genuine interaction between crowd and DJ and cocking a snack at the tendency to revere the vinyl medium.
As well as providing an opportunity for sonic experimentation, Verbrechen exists as a means of showcasing the talents of like-minded artists, and their next event features an appearance by Felix Kubin. Kubin, who has recorded for influential Cologne label A-music, will be showing the short films and animations for which he is chiefly known, as well as spinning a set of the best of contemporary electronica. He is joined by Martin MacKay of Rub-a-Dub, who also practises a form of nightlife subversion by running Club 69 with scant regard for the established tenets of club promotion. Verbrechen, then, provides the opportunity to engage in a genuinely novel clubbing experience, with a serious agenda behind it, and (more traditionally) hear some great music played by great DJs.

Pressure To be fair, Pressure delivers each and every time, but tonight is a cut above: Marco Carola joins Stuart & Orde in the first arch, while the Glasgow Underground room has Kevin Mackay and Daniel lbbotson. The icing on the cake, however, comes in the form of the future legend Romanthony, playing his first live set in the world, ever. The Arches, Fri 26 Nov.
Soundpresence The consistently rammed R&B extravaganza returns. Trevor Nelson of Radio 1 headlines, ably supported by Kiss FM DJ Shorty Blitz and local talent Naeem & Kash and Filo chip in with a live PA. The Temple, Thur 25 Nov.
Yang The consistently popular bar/club celebrates its first birthday with a weekend of fun. Friday features George T of Tribal Funktion popping over from Edinburgh to supplement the sterling turntablism of residents Dema and Nice (Freek Manoovers) and Kushi's low slung house. Saturday sees Ian O'Brien (Peacefrog) joining regulars Muchaill, Brian Murnin and Dribbler. Yang, Fri 19 & Sat 20 Nov.
Bennet's Another birthday event, with the ever-popular gay venue finally making the age of consent. In addition to the usual high octane party tunes from Grant and Sara, the first 50 through the door get a free bottle of champers and there will be various giveaways and, lord help us, 'surprises' throughout the night. Destiny This month sees the grand opening of ’superclub' Destiny. The new venue features mind-bendineg elaborate decor (wrought iron dance pods!) and a series of themed bars (’Gothic‘, for Pete’s sake, and 'Envy’), which means it is either at the vanguard of a new interior design trend or woefully out of touch. Expect wall to wall commercial house and injured footie players in the VIP. room. Open from Sat 27.
