On show in Scotland for the first time, this exhibition about Sir Winston Churchill brings to life the man behind the myth through childhood letters, notes for some of the most famous speeches ever made, correspondence with kings, presidents, soldiers and celebrities plus photographs and possessions.

0 Cal onial Sir Walter Scott And The Creation Of Scotland Until Sun 17 Oct. £4 (£3). The life of Sir Walter Scott, one of Scotland’s most influential and best-known figures, is celebrated through paintings, drawings, sculptures and manuscripts.

Agnes Martin And John McLaughlin Until Sun 31 Oct. A two-person show featuring the work of abstract artists Agnes Martin and John McLaughlin. Canadian-born Martin came to prominence in New York in the late 19505. Famous for her geometric, abstract works and rectilinear patterns, Martin continues to be an influential figure. Still painting at the age of 87 (she showed work at the gallery in 1974), Martin exhibits fourteen works on canvas completed in the last four years. Showing alongside Martin are paintings and prints by John McLaughlin (1898-1976). He is seen as America’s first great abstract painter although he is not widely known to the public at large, due to his self- imposed detachment from the New York art scene.
