Fortunately for Glasgow clubbers, the Northern Soul club Goodfoot is about as far from the cliche of moustachioed men re-mortgaging their homes for a one-sided demo pressing and frowning on anyone without documentation to prove their regular attendance at the Wigan Casino as
you can get.
The night was set up when Scott Brown, and like-minded former Mods Kev, Mark, Wee Scott and Barry started going to techno nights at the Sub Club and realised that their record collections could be combined with the inclusive atmosphere of post-rave clubbing to create something out of the
ordinary.
‘We've always tried to bit more diverse with the music,’ says Scott, ‘and now we're at the Bedsit, things are going really well. If people want to dance all night in the main room-they can, but they can also head through to the bar and relax to soundtracks and funk as well.’
Thankfully, the attempt to keep away from an elitist fanboy atmosphere doesn't result in two distinct rooms - one for the die-bards, the other for the curious - since you're as likely to hear soul stompers and more than a hint of funk on the dancefloor in addition to the constant stream of old
skool Northern favourites.
So, if repetitive beats are proving a little too, well, repetitive or you want to hear the tunes shamelessly plundered by the big beat elite (or for that matter, if you have a box full of over-priced singles and your patches sewn on just right), get down to Goodfoot and sample some of the best music Glasgow has to offer in a tipsy, go-for-it atmosphere.
