Sashl: Move Mania (Multiply) Simplistic piano breaks are go. With Sash! around and raving it up with Shannon, who needs a cheese board? Even on John B. Norman's deep house mix, it‘s Euro Stomp alert. Top tunage for glowstick gourmets. as it were. (T D)
ALB U MS
David Holmes: Essential Mi): 98101 (fin)
Billed as a time-out from the chores stardom brings ~ remixes, a new album, Hollywood film scores — this album is a big. baggy. nostalgic excursion through Holmes‘ record collection. Hardly on vacation, he revs up to breakneck speed splicing soul, funk, rock, punk, world music, easy listening and, of course, film $0undtracks. Holmes has taken a weekend off to pause and celebrate club life past, present and future. The result is as pleasurable to listen to as it must have been to mix. (MF) Plastiliman: artifakts [be] (Novamute) Anyone who has heard the brilliance that is a Plastikman live set will be disappointed by the spartan openness of these tracks. They are the building blocks, not the finished magnificence of which he is capable. That said, there's more than enough sexy acidity and crisp rhythms for the afioonados. (T 0) Various: The End Vol 1 (XL Recordings) All that holds the disparate beats, breaks and sonic booms of C01 together is that the tracks are representative of the quality underground nights frequenting The End club in London. C02 allows Mr C and pals to let slip a rather stodgy blend of tech~house, which undoubtedly sounds better on The End's mighty s0und system than a home stereo. (TD) Mr Vegas: Heads High (Greensleeves) Young Clifford Smith knows how to rap his ragga out ruff but, as the nickname implies, he's a bit smoother than the rest. The hits — 'Nike Air' and ‘Heads High' in particular -— kick the fire into an album which is over-extended but which justifies Mr Vegas‘ MOBO nomination for best international reggae act. (TD) REVlEWERS THIS ISSUE:
Thom Dibdin, Miles Fielder.
