Beck's New Contemporaries Bronze Y- fronts, a cardboard operations desk and deep-frozen electrical sockets, this long- standing annual show is definitely varied and worth a look. A kind of creme de la creme of young talent, eighteen artists fresh out of college are shown, selected from over 1200 submissions by, among others, Turner winner, Gillian Wearing. Glasgow: C04 until 31 Jan.

In Visible Light The camera is a clever operator in a show that looks at the way photography is used to manipulate ideologies. Happy snappers include Victorian self-styled scientists and contemporary stars Gillian Wearing, Cindy Sherman and lo Spence. Edinburgh: lnverleith House until I 5 Feb.
