DJANGO BATES'S DELIGHTFUL PRECIPICE: Django Bates is riditg high at the
moment on the back of winning the prestigious Jazzpar Awa in Denmark, but his Delightful Precipice big band is still heard all too infrequently, which makes this closing concert a genuine occasion to savour. Django was always the major - and certainly the most distinctively idiosyncratic - compositional voice within the Loose Tubes collective. and Delightful Precipice has allowed
him to build on his earlier work in this format. with a high-power band which includes a fair number of players from the earlier group. I McEwan’s Old Frutimarket, Sun 6 Jul, 7.30pm.
