Fast and stylish direction. creative soundtrack and acting that‘s off-the-rails excellent. One of the best British hon‘or films ever. utterly bleak and filled with the nihilism of director Reeves (who committed suicide a year after its corrrpletion). Price is at his most completely evil as true-life witchfrnder Matthew Ilopkins. sadistically travelling the country to torture unfortunates in the name of church and state. Edinburgh: Cameo.

I Women In Revolt ( 18) (Paul Morrissey. US. l97l ) Jackie Curtis. Candy Darling. Ilolly Woodlawn. Mon‘issey‘s satire on the women's movement (which manages an artistic dorrble take by having transvestites in the lead roles) achieves a genuine poignancy through the star presence of the performers. but is filmed in fairly dull fashion. The sex in the foreground is less subversive than the comic speeches in the background. and the feeling is that this is as close as we'll get to a glimpse at life in the Warhol Factory.
