various venues. info: 013! 228 9328. Kettles will be boiling and cups overflowing for tltis event in aid of cancer relief through the Macmillan Fund. Over 115,000 people will be taking part iii the national event which takes place at over 1,250 venues. The organisers are hoping to raise £200.000 to help patients and carers. The more unusual venues include off-shore rigs. ferries. prisons and skaters on ice.

A three day event which covers all areas of the textile business. Of most interest to botanists and conservationists will be tonight’s lecture entitled Magic, Mystery and Mayhem. The other two days are filled with an all- day seminar and a workshop which reveals detailed and. fortunately. lighthearted information on how to obtain colours from lichens and plant materials.

As part of Clackmannanshire‘s Festival of Textiles comes two hours of paper-making fun for ages ten and upwards with artist Ewa Kuniczak. Where the first event utilised pulp, the sequel makes the tnost of fibre with silk and linen incorporated into embroidery. felting and surfaces for painting.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary oi the Modern Homes Exhibition, the organisers are putting on a special birthday show along the theme oi ‘Past, Present and Future.’ The past segment entitled ‘Heilections’ takes a look back at a hall century oi Modern Homes and will display products such as the downie continental quilt and early stereo systems while ‘lnspirations’ gives visitors ideas ior colour schemes, iumiture and iabrics. The linal element oi the iuture is comprised ol a pyramid structure housing hi-tech equipment and concept designs ior the domestic utilities tor the next century. A supervised iree creche is available, while an areaior11-15 year olds is set aside, complete with tree pinball machines, arcade games and wall-to-wall MTV, allowing parents to browse in leisure.

I Live in The Gardens Princes Street Gardens. More fun fora cause with this party launching BT‘s Local Partnership in Scotland while raising funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care. The Tartan Amoebas will be headlining the event while Dougie MacLean isjoined by the BT Polkemmet Pipe Band. As well as the music there is a host ofchildren's entertainment such as face painting and juggling. The organisers are aiming to top last year's total of “60.000.
