I Carnoustie plays host to the 1996 Scottish Open between 10—13 July with a particularly strong lield out to deny Australian Wayne lilley a second successive triumph. Whether or not he conquers his rivals, they will have to lace the accuracy of his broom-handle putting which gave him the edge last year. Both lliclt Faldo and Colin Montgomerie, who came second and third respectively in 1995, are appearing. As well as the bold Monty, Scottish hopes tor high placings will lie with Sam Torrance and newcomer Gordon Sherry (pictured above), while much is expected o1 Andrew Coltart, Boss Drummond and Brian Marchbanlt.
